Welcome, and thank you for considering me for your behavioral health needs. From time to time, we all experience difficult life events, negative emotions and unhelpful behavior patterns that inhibit us from leading healthy and meaningful lives. Whether you're looking to reduce problematic behaviors, improve communication in your family, or gain support during a difficult time, therapy can often help.

I specialize in working with children ages three and older, adolescents, and their families. As parents, we always try our best, but sometimes we need a little support.  My approach to therapy is practical, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I focus on using research-based interventions to help you and your child reach your goals. While treatment is tailored to each  client and situation, I frequently use interventions grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy and collaborative problem solving. I also work with adults who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship problems, the effects of previous trauma, and/or grief.

The primary focus of my training and career is in Health Psychology, a field devoted to the intersection of physical health and mental health. I have a lifelong passion for all things health-related. To that end I love keeping up on the latest research in the physiological basis of psychology and psychological treatment. In therapy I emphasize evidence-based approaches in a warm, friendly, and inviting environment, working on the goals you establish.

As a person with chronic pain I emphasize addressing the needs of others with chronic pain. Through the years I have integrated the current evidence-based psychological treatments for chronic pain into a coherent system that meets the needs of my patients in a flexible and easy-to-learn approach. We call this process Mastering Pain because we hope that every person with chronic pain can develop the brain skills, coping skills, and life skills to become a master of their pain management. I provide individual therapy, group therapy, and some assessment. On the side I am building a research program and developing a free support group network for people with chronic pain. I am particularly interested in identifying the ways the brain can manage body sensations, alter pain perception, change intensity, and improve a sense of well-being.

My approach to therapy is non-judgmental, collaborative, and flexible. I am skilled in a variety of evidence-based practices and find that each person has their own unique history, circumstances, and preferences that I take into consideration when planning treatment. In an atmosphere of trust and respect we can work together on relieving your symptoms, building your coping skills, and removing any obstacles that keep you from making meaningful choices that are right for you.

I offer a variety of services including individual psychotherapy, psychological testing and assessment, group psychotherapy, and couple's therapy. Health related issues are an emphasis of my practice. Specifically, I use Mastering Pain to help individuals living with chronic pain understand their symptoms, manage their experience of pain, and improve their overall well-being.

When offering treatment, my goal is to provide a compassionate, safe, and neutral setting where concerns can be heard, understood, and effectively addressed. I tailor my approach to each individual depending upon the nature of their concerns, expressed needs, and regular feedback as we work together. I allow space and validation to enable them to come to their own understanding of genuine ways to make changes and find a sense of self-efficacy, balance, and happiness in their lives.

I offer psychotherapy to individuals aged 17+. I have worked with people experiencing both positive and difficult life transitions like the birth of a child, death of a loved one, or onset of an illness, all of which can bring about a range of concerns and adjustments. I emphasize work with people who live with various kinds of chronic pain and who often experience a spectrum of related issues like identity changes, grief, and concerns about quality of life. These individuals often find validation and relief as we use the Mastering Pain approach to increase understanding of the specific ways pain manifests in their body and brain; and what they can do all on their own to change the way their brain processes pain as well as their experience of it.
